Diving, Kayaking, Snorkeling, Sailing & Paddleboarding
We may be known for our fishing, but the waters surrounding Deep Water Cay are excellent for many other water-related activities. Diving and snorkeling are great here because our options range from just six inches below the surface to 130 feet deep. Blue Holes appear in just two places in the Western Hemisphere – the Bahamas and Belize. The deepest Blue Hole in the world is in waters just off the Bahamas. National Geographic did a story on Bahamas Blue Holes in August of 2010 and it can be found on our website. There are also kayaking and paddleboarding available for those who like to stay on top of the water.
Diving
The beauty of diving at Deep Water Cay is simple. Variety is the name of the game here, making us a top scuba diving destination in the Bahamas.
The runs are very quick and offer outstanding diving in areas in the Northwest and Northeast Providence Channels. These channels extend offshore and are bordered by a shallow barrier reef. What makes them outstanding is the gradual and progressive descent to 750 feet deep. Those depths provide cooler and clearer water.

Reef, Wall, and Blue Hole Diving
Walls, blue holes and reefs are among the most sought after dive spots and you can find them close to our shores. Some walls plummet deep down into trenches that run adjacent to all of the cays. As you descend into one, you’ll be surrounded by a circular reef wall with crystal clear water. Dive a little further and take in coral, sponges, seafans, seawhips, and schooling reef fish. Stay focused and you may find black coral.
At Deep Water Cay there is a blue hole that is a 10-minute swim from the front office. The base material is limestone, which creates vitality and life. The Bahamas are one of the two places that blue holes are found in the Western Hemisphere and they are spectacular here.
KayakingWant to stay above water? Climb aboard one of our sit-a-top kayaks and go. You can kayak all the way around the cay on the calm ocean surface as well as the lagoons in the mangrove preserves. Explore it all – coves, mangroves, flats, blue holes and quiet beaches. Get up close and personal with a variety of birds, fish, and mammals. No new skills are necessary, just grab a paddle and enjoy the incredible Bahamas kayaking experience. |
SnorkelingSnorkeling is perfect for those who don’t SCUBA dive and prefer to stay close to the surface. Many of the same spectacular sights are available for snorkelers as for divers. You can sometimes go with an excursion of divers and stay near the surface or you can simply walk out onto the flats and snorkel there to see some amazing flora and fauna. When the boat traffic is gone for the morning, the docks are a fun place to snorkel and there are huge starfish and often bonefish and other things to see just that close to home. |
SailingOur Hobie Cats are yours to enjoy. Just plan ahead and we are happy to take you and friends out and catch the wind. Sailing is another great way to see the island sights, get the wind in your hair, catch some sun, and stay on top of the water. |
PaddleboardingPaddleboarding is a fairly new sport and is easy for those blessed with good balance. You can stand or even kneel and paddle your board silently out away from the shore to see some amazing sights or just to get some fun exercise. Some anglers even paddleboard to fish. It’s a silent way to sneak up on your catch and quite a challenge. The term paddleboning is what has been coined to describe paddleboarding to catch bonefish. We have a video on our website that’s quite enlightening on that subject. |
